Your base for this country getaway is a boutique hotel in the idyllic village of Alfriston, on the banks of the Cuckmere River. Filled with cosy pubs and independent shops and surrounded by the rolling South Downs hills, it’s the perfect spot to unwind.

After a relaxing evening, you have a day of fresh air and freedom ahead. Following a safety briefing, it’s time to hop on your e-bike and tour the Cuckmere Valley, passing through Alfriston, admiring the views from Firle Beacon and the iconic chalky cliffs of Cuckmere Haven, and sauntering through ancient woodland at Friston Forest.

Naturally, the day offers plenty of opportunity to sample some of Sussex’s finest produce, from specialty coffee at Church Farm and artisan beer at Long Man Brewery, to sparkling wine at Rathfinney Wine Estate and an optional lunch at Flint Barns.

The South Downs Extension

If one day whizzing along peaceful lanes and through spectacular scenery isn’t enough, you can continue your e-bike adventure to Lewes, Ditchling and the South Downs National Park, while we transport your belongings by road.

You’ll pass the historic and picturesque village of Firle and internationally acclaimed Glyndebourne Opera House – and they’ll be more opportunity to sample local delights, with a stop at the Trading Post Coffee Roasters in Lewes and lunch at The Bull Ditchling.
