Walking in the Winster Valley

What we love most about the Lakes

Brimming with rugged charm, from picturesque market towns to secluded country house inns overlooking Lake Windermere, the Lake District is a mythical corner of England and perfect for an indulgent getaway packed with memories. Whether you’re stargazing by night and unwinding with luxurious spa treatments and Michelin-star dining by day, or setting out on your private boat to discover one of the many gorgeous lakes that gave the region its moniker, or hiking England’s tallest mountain Scafell Pike, total serenity will find you.

Travel itinerary

Day 1

Three-night stay in a majestic hotel at the heart of the Lake District, a home away from home offering exceptional views of Windermere and its idyllic private tarn. Enjoy the surrounding Lakeland fells, and savour a quintessential afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the lake.

Day 2

Embark on a full-day private tour of the Northern Lakes. Travel over Kirkstone Pass, tackling the highest mountain point in the Lakes. Pass by Brotherswater and Ullswater, named the most beautiful lake in the Lake District. Discover Aira Force Waterfall, before taking a short stroll through the forest, a memorable lunch is served in a tranquil woodland setting. Sit back and enjoy the finest Cumbrian culinary flare with a sensational seven-course tasting menu with local ingredients sourced from the encompassing valleys and forest on the doorstep.

Enjoy a leisurely drive back to your hotel with an option to visit the Lakes Distillery for local whiskies, before journeying past Thirlmere Reservoir and onto Grasmere later that day.

Day 3

After breakfast, meet with your guide for a walk via country lanes and rolling pastureland to the Winster Valley, a remote and idyllic rural backwater where small farms and wooded hillsides dominate the landscape. The walk leads to an ancient and well-stocked pub for a well-earned reward. Or we would be happy to arrange a wild picnic, just say the word!

Day 4

After breakfast, there’s the option for a private tour of Levens Hall and Gardens (please ask for details). Enjoy an opportunity to accompany the Head Gardener on a private walk through these historic gardens and learn why they remain unique in the world.
